Melanie Arntz has been the Chair of Labor Market and Occupational Research and Vice Director of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) since January 2025. Her research focuses on the structural transformation of the labor market, particularly in the context of technological progress. Central to her work is the question of how new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, affect employment, wages, and inequality in the labor market, what new requirements arise from these changes, and how occupations and jobs develop as a result of new technologies. She is also interested in how regional labor markets evolve during structural change and the implications this has for companies and employees.
